It is the mark of a truly intelligent person to be moved by statistics.
Said the great George Bernard Shaw, and I can totally relate to that. Stats not only intrigue me, but make me wonder and give a sense of joyfulness when learnt.
In the field of webmasters, statistics are more than just numbers. Where developers care for stats and trends of technologies being used, designers like to compare stats of applications they can work on, bloggers love to learn the numbers of their competition, and some just enjoy analyzing data and showcasing it in different perspectives.
So in the wake of all that has been said above, I have made the following list, a list of statistics websites where you can get the many useful, interesting and trending stats about our favorite invention of the past century, the mighty world wide web.
Whether its the number of websites being built everyday; or the number of users active on Internet, the most used web application; or the top trending framework right now, from which region of the world we are getting the most traffic, or which platform is being used by the most, you can get almost all the relevant and useful data from these statistics websites.
Another reason for sharing these websites with you that the immense data and analyzed stats from these websites not only will keep you updated with the modern trend and teach you about all you need to know from the history, but will also present an ample opportunity to bloggers and writers for content. As we all know, content is king and we all strive for it, so when you see these stats, you’ll definitely be getting many ideas on presenting many of these stats and numbers in many possible ways that you can. Just like how I used some of these statistics websites to come up with the list of top 10 most used web widgets. So its just not for the stats lovers, but also for bloggers and writers for some content inspiration.
So here you go then:
Did you know that in year 2016, Hong Kong and Cayman Islands were the only two countries in the world where the change of percentage of population was greater than the change of percentage of Internet users? This is just an example of how you can interpret data into different perspectives. And this statistic was observed at Internet Live Stats’ “trends & more” section. At Internet Live Stats, you can literally see all the statistics of the Internet live. Another interesting feature there is “1 second”, where they share all the major updates being happening every second.
Half of the web runs on Apache’s web server, whereas WordPress powers almost 28% of the total websites. Web Technology Surveys are a treat for web developers and webmasters. You can find all the useful technology statistics and trends here. They also have a feature where you can check technologies being used by any site by entering its url. And they have a very useful tool for webmasters where they can register with their site and get quality alerts. And if you are working on a special project and need some kind of technology report that is not already there, you can also request a custom one.
Africa’s growth of Internet users has been increased 7,557.2% from 2000 to 2017, and North America has the highest penetration rate, more than 88% of its population are using the internet. If you’re interested in demographic statistics of the internet, Internet World Stats is the website to go for you. They provide detailed stats of the population of all regions and countries using the internet.
This one provides you with the daily stats of indexed web on Google and Bing. On May 13, 2017, the world wide web has at least 4.48 billion pages indexed on Google and Bing only. There are also comparison charts available at the site to see how massive Google is to Bing when it comes to number of pages indexed.
W3Counter is a free tool for website owners to learn all about their visitors. I know you are thinking you already have Google Analytics, so why am I telling you this? Well because you can also see Global Market Share when it comes to Browsers and Platforms. The monthly stats indicate the trends in Browsers, Mobile Platforms, and even the screen resolutions. So this is definitely quite useful to look at from time to time, just to keep yourself aware and updated.
Google Adsense is being used by the 44% of the total advertising websites, but did you know that only 5% of the top 100,000 are using Adsense which decreases to 4% in top 10,000 websites. Although the main site of builtwith is a tool to see what websites are built of, they have a sub site trends.builtwith.com with a huge list of categories to see the many web technology usage trends. The way they have categorized the trends and analyzed the data, it is a must see website for every webmaster with interests in website and web technology statistics.
And this brings to the end of this statistics websites list, I hope you find it useful. Do write your valuable feedback in the comments below, or if I have missed your favorite website for stats about the internet and world wide web, please share.
